Hillary House Leadership Centre
|
|
On May 2010 Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate secured Sir Ed's house from Remuera. To manoeuver the house up the narrow driveway it was cut into 4 sections, moved to in the grounds of Andrews Removal and Transport where it was placed together and stored. In February 2011 the house was brought to the grounds of the collegiate and placed onto the concrete pad that had been specially laid. The house will be restored to it orginal design. Students from MIT Building Department have also assisted with the building. It is our hope that Hillary House is restored and preserved and made available to students within the Collegiate and the people of New Zealand to enjoy and learn about Sir Edmund Hillary, his life, his experiences, his work and his values. The House is to be established as a Leadership Centre to benefit students of the collegiate and the wider New Zealand. A Trust has been established and one of its roles is to include the development of educational programmes in leadership and motivation to enable participants to be confident and effective contributors to and leaders within their local communities, New Zealand and globally. In addition the Trust will develop and maintain links with Nepal which Sir Edmund Hillary was involved. We know that Sir Edmund Hillary was particularly keen to continue this. The programme development is commencing to create the programmes outlined in the trust deed. |
